Program Description

This professional education program prepares the candidate for School Nurse Certification in Pennsylvania for elementary and secondary levels (K-12). Applicants must hold a current PA licensure as a registered nurse and a BSN degree. This program can be combined with a study in the M. Ed. in School Health Services program. PA Certification Requirements

  • 6 undergraduate credits in English (composition & literature) (C- or above)
  • 6 undergraduate credits in math (C- or above)
  • An exiting GPA of 3.0
  • Successful Completion of course requirements in this certification area

FAQ’s

  1. How long will it take to complete the certification program?
    The school nurse certification program at eastern will take about one year (fall, spring, summer & fall), taking one graduate course per semester.
  2. Do I Need a Baccalaureate degree to be a school nurse?
    Yes, in Pennsylvania you must nave a BSN to become a certified school nurse.
  3. Will I be accepted into the school nurse program if my undergraduate GPA was less than 3.0?
    Your applications will be evaluated on an individual basis. You may be admitted on a conditional basis and given the opportunity to demonstrate academic proficiency in graduate level coursework.
  4. How many courses may I transfer from another university?
    Up to 9 graduate credits may be accepted in transfer from an accredited school, college or university. You will be asked to submit an official transcript so that these courses may be evaluated for equivalency of content to the courses offered Eastern University.
  5. I have met all of the admission requirements. Are there additional prerequisites needed that I could be working on before starting the program?
    If you have not completed the requirements for certification by the Pennsylvanian Department of Education; six undergraduate credits in math and six undergraduate credits in English (3 in literature and 3 in compositions) you may enroll in the certification program but you will not be eligible for certification until all requirements are met.
  6. How do I transfer classes?
    Request an official transcript for all classes to be sent directly to Graduate Admissions.
