Using E-mail at Eastern University

Last Updated: 12 September 2008

Welcome to Eastern University's e-mail Help Page.  Your Eastern University E-mail Account is accessible across the Internet by three means, the first and easiest is through webmail.  The second method for accessing your e-mail is via IMAP.  Third, you can access your mail through POP.  After accessing your e-mail, you can also control the SPAM settings on your e-mail account.  Click here for an updated SPAM filter guide.  Please see below for various guides on how to best utilize and manage your e-mail account at Eastern.

If the online help does not solve your problem please contact support@eastern.edu.

Secure Webmail

Any person with an Eastern University E-mail account may access their account over the Web.  Simply open your web browser, and from Eastern's web site, click on E-net.  Then click on the secure Web Mail link, log in and access your e-mail over the web.  You may receive and send mail with attachments.  You may also lookup users on the Eastern University Directory Server.  See our instructions on how to use Webmail here.

Secure IMAP

Secure IMAP may be set up on supported mail programs such as Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook, or Netscape Communicator to be able to access your e-mail from any connection to the internet.  If not dialed into Eastern University, the Secure IMAP User must set their outgoing SMTP server to Eastern's outgoing server with specific settings.  See our instructions on how to use secure IMAP to access your mail here.

Secure POP

POP may be set up on supported mail programs such as Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook, or Netscape Communicator to be able to access your e-mail from any connection to the internet.  POP differs from IMAP in that it will download your e-mail off of Eastern's mail server onto the computer that you loaded the mail program on.  If you do not want to download your e-mails, do NOT choose this option.  If not dialed into Eastern University, the Secure POP User must set their outgoing SMTP server to Eastern's outgoing server with specific settings.  See our instructions on how to use secure POP to access your mail here.
