Methodology used by the institution to distribute grants under the Act: First priority given to Title IV-eligible residential students for Spring 2020 to cover food, housing and other eligible expenses due to the COVID-19 disruption of campus operations. Second priority was given to all other Title IV-eligible students enrolled in an on-campus course for Spring or Spring 2 2020 with an expected family contribution of 5,575 or less on their 2019-20 FAFSA. Remaining funds to be distributed to other Title IV-eligible students enrolled in an on-campus course for Spring or Spring 2 2020 based on application.
Instructions, directions, or guidance provided by the institution to students concerning the emergency financial aid grants: On 05/19/2020, first priority students were notified by email that they would “receive a cash grant of $1,270. The purpose of these funds is to offset any additional expenses incurred for food, housing and other needs due to the disruption of campus operations.” On 6/11/2020, second priority students were notified by email that they would receive a CARES grant of $350. On 06/20/2020, all remaining, eligible students were invited, by email, to complete the CARES Act Emergency Funds Request form no later than Tuesday, June 30th, 2020.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding as Eastern has diligently worked to determine the best way to provide assistance to our students. As many of you may have heard, the Department of Education passed the CARES Act which includes a Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. The University leadership and President submitted a proposal to the Board of Trustees to award a portion of these funds to our residential students to assist with their displacement after the campus was closed; this proposal was approved on May 15th. An additional proposal was submitted for review to award the majority of the remaining funds to our students that fit the following criteria:
-
Enrolled in an on-campus course for Spring 2020 or Spring 2 2020
-
Eligible for Title IV funds
-
Have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) on their 2019-2020 FAFSA between 0 and 5575
-
Have not already received CARES Act Emergency Funds
This second proposal was also approved, which means that you will be receiving a cash grant of $350. We anticipate that these cash grants will be processed and applied to your student accounts by June 12, 2020.
