Community Engagement
Eastern University embraces the Carnegie Foundation’s definition of community engagement:
Community Engagement describes the collaboration between higher education institutions and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity (Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching).
How does this connect to Eastern’s Vision, Mission, and Values?
Vision: As a University, Eastern will Listen. Love. Learn. Lead.
Mission: Eastern University is a diverse, Christ-centered community preparing graduates to impact the world through faith, reason, and justice.
Values: Excellence; Authenticity; Stewardship; Thoughtfulness; Enthusiasm; Relationships; iNnovation
Eastern University’s commitment to collaborating with the larger community is woven into our mission, vision, and values.
Our community engagement, driven by Eastern University’s mission of impacting the world through faith, reason, and justice, is a deep source of mutual learning, encouragement, and transformation as we partner with a vast array of stakeholders. This collaboration provides extensive and unique opportunities to prepare our graduates for service to the global community, as well as expand the reach of Eastern’s values-based network to include local, national, and global partners.
With these constituents, many of whom include our alumni, we seek to collaboratively engage in formal and informal projects and programs that not only address significant community needs, but also provide our current students, staff, and faculty with educational and transformational experiences, opportunities, and relationships.
