Alumni Spotlight: Lance Bennett
The Communication Studies program at Eastern prepares students not only to excel in the workplace, but also to pursue graduate study if they so desire. For example, after graduating in 2014, Lance Bennett went on to earn master’s degrees at West Chester State University and the University of Iowa and is currently pursuing an Ed. D. in Leadership in Higher Education at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas.
Lance says, “The Department of Communication Studies at Eastern University prepared me for graduate school by providing a holistic approach to understanding the discipline. We learned foundational theories and methods required to conduct a thesis on a topic of our choice. Because of the rigorous undergraduate training, I felt that the transition to graduate school was smooth.”
Lance also credits his success to the personal attention he received at Eastern: “The faculty embraced me and my long-term career goal of being a university professor. Telling them about my plans led to opportunities to be a teaching and research assistant for several courses in the Department. It was clear that the faculty really cared about me and my success!"
Our faculty strive to nurture every student’s unique gifts. For those who excel academically, our chapter of the national communication honor society provides recognition and additional opportunities for growth.
