Internships are independent field experiences which offer students the opportunity to gain practical work experience, learn new skills, and develop professional contacts. In order to ensure an optimal learning experience, internship experiences are arranged and supervised by the exercise science internship coordinator. The cooperative arrangements involve a pre-determined on-site preceptor who provides direct supervision and instruction. Benefits of learning experiences available to students during their internship experience include:
- Enrichment of communication skills with professionals in the field
- Enhancement of exercise testing and prescriptive techniques learned in the classroom
- Development of critical thinking skills
- Maturation of leadership and organizational skills
- Establishment of professional contacts
- Accumulation of practical experiences that will assist in future job searches
- Clarification of future career directions and goals
