The Eastern University DMFT and PhD in MFT programs provide the opportunity to meet the educational requirements for licensure (LMFT) in the State of Pennsylvania for the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy credential (LMFT), if desired. Following the successful completion of the DMFT or PhD in MFT program, students have to meet additional state requirements in order to qualify for licensure. The regulations for the state of Pennsylvania are listed below.
State of Pennsylvania Requirements
What is Issued: License.
Name of What's Issued: Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
Accreditation Requirements: Regional accreditation.
Examinations: The National Examination in Marital and Family Therapy.
Curriculum Requirements: Courses in the following areas:
- Human Development (3 courses/9 semester hours);
- Marriage and Family Studies (3 courses/9 semester hours);
- Marriage and Family Therapy (3 courses/9 semester hours);
- Professional Studies (1 course/3 semester hours);
- Research (1 course/3 semester hours); and
- Practicum.
Field Experience Requirements: Practicum must be at least one year minimum and 300 hours of supervised direct client contact with individuals, couples, and families.
