Dr. Delano M. Shane currently serves as the Dean of Students. With a tenure of 13 years at Eastern University, Dr. Shane has demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership in various capacities. Prior to his current position, he held roles such as Director of Educational Initiatives, overseeing University Strategic Partnerships and Alliances, and managing operations for Eastern University’s three off-campus satellite locations in Philadelphia, PA. Before his tenure at Eastern University, Dr. Shane spent seven years as the Director of People for People Institute, a collaboration with the Community Development initiative launched by Greater Exodus Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA.
Throughout his time at Eastern, Dr. Shane has balanced his administrative responsibilities with teaching, serving as an Adjunct Professor across multiple departments. He has taught courses ranging from community development and business leadership to justice studies and cross-cultural seminars. Additionally, he has contributed his expertise in public policy, American government, and contemporary social problems to several years of teaching.
Dr. Shane holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education from Eastern University, complemented by a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Virginia. Before joining Eastern University, he worked as a Project Architect for esteemed Philadelphia Architecture Firms. Dr. Shane’s professional journey has been deeply influenced by his passion for community empowerment, leading him to pursue a Master of Arts in Urban Economic Development at Eastern University. Subsequently, he served as the executive director of a community-based non-profit organization focused on economic revitalization, housing counseling, and community programming in Philadelphia, PA.
Driven by a commitment to holistic development and faith-based empowerment, Dr. Shane has actively engaged in community initiatives and ministry efforts. He co-founded the Delaware Valley Youth Ministry Coalition, collaborating with Youth Pastors to enhance youth development ministries across Greater Philadelphia. Additionally, he dedicated five years to serving as a Youth Minister at his church in Philadelphia.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Shane finds fulfillment in family life. He is a devoted husband to Cherise Shane and a loving father to their children, Amala, Amara, Amia, and Amaya. They reside in Cheltenham, PA, where Dr. Shane continues integrating strategic planning, education, personal growth, and faith-based empowerment into his life's purpose of maximizing individual and community potential.
