Eastern University Launches Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology

St. Davids, PA: Eastern University has launched an innovative new Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. This program is a full "four-fields" degree, including cultural, biological, archaeological, and linguistic anthropology, providing a holistic view of human beings in all aspects of their lives, past and present. The major will be available starting in Fall 2025 to traditional undergraduate students studying on Eastern’s main campus.

Anthropology, the study of people and cultures around the world, provides knowledge and skills that prepare graduates for careers in international agencies, social services, cross-cultural church ministry, and other fields where understanding cultural differences is a critical skill.

““We are delighted to welcome undergraduate students to the adventure of anthropology. Our  program includes in-depth study of the subject, multiple opportunities for field experience in ethnography, hands-on faculty support, and preparation for various types of work and/or graduate school post-graduation. It truly is a holistic and perspective-shaping experience for students.”

Eloise Meneses, Chair of the Department of Social Transformation, Professor of Cultural Anthropology, and Program Director of the MA in Theological and Cultural Anthropology.

Similar to Eastern’s MA in Theological and Cultural Anthropology, which is celebrating its 10-year anniversary, the BA in Anthropology integrates faith into the study of culture, offering students both theological and scientific perspectives on anthropology.

“We are thrilled to add the BA in Anthropology to our roster of top-tier programs. Our goal is to offer students rich educational experiences that equip them with the knowledge and skills for meaningful careers and lives. I look forward to witnessing the ways that the comprehensive curriculum of the Anthropology program will shape the lives of students interested in the intersection of culture and faith.”

Tracey Greenwood, Dean of College of Health & Sciences.

The program is now enrolling new students to start classes in Fall 2025. Courses include Cultural Geography, Christ and Culture, Language and Culture, Intro to Missiology, and more.
