St. Davids, PA: Eastern University and 610 Sports are proud to present Faith on the Field, a taped event for ESPN Radio featuring Philadelphia Phillies pitchers, Jerad Eickhoff and Jeanmar Gómez. The program will be held on Monday April 24th at 4:00 p.m. in the University Gym at 1300 Eagle Rd. St. Davids, PA 19087.
Faith on the Field will feature a one hour interview with Eickhoff and Gómez who will individually share their experiences as professional athletes and people of faith. Eickhoff made his MLB debut in 2015 and Gómez in 2010. As professing Christians, the players will discuss how their faith impacts their positions as major league baseball players. Segments from the event will air on 610 Sports ESPN Radio’s new show Faith on the Field hosted by radio personality Rob Maaddi, Pastor Phil Moser, and Eastern University Senior Lecturer in Kinesiology, Doug Horton ’99.
As an Associated Press sports writer, Maaddi has built relationships with many Christian professional athletes over the years and hopes to feature many of them on the show, which is primarily focused on the impact of faith in the sports world. While Maaddi will serve as the discussion lead on the show, he is joined by co-hosts, Moser and Horton. In addition to his role as Senior Lecturer in Kinesiology at Eastern, Horton also serves as Clinical Coordinator for the Athletic Training Education Program and Director of the Life Fitness Program. As a co-host of Faith on the Field, he brings specific insight from his experience in these areas. "As an alumnus and current faculty member at Eastern it is exciting to bring Faith On The Field to campus!” Horton says. “Not only will it be a great event for the campus community, but also a great opportunity for people from the surrounding area to come and see our beautiful campus. The show will allow professional athletes to share their faith journey and discuss the issues they struggle with in the public arena allowing people to get to know them for more than their performance on the field."
Faith on the Field held its debut show on Thursday, April 6th. It will continue to be broadcasted on ESPN's Philadelphia radio affiliate, 610 AM, on Thursday nights from 7 to 8 p.m. ET* and will also be available on podcast and the iHeart and TuneIn radio apps.
This event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 3:00 p.m. and seating will conclude by 3:45 p.m. Early arrival is encouraged. While tickets are not required, groups of 12 or more are asked to RSVP to sportsevent@eastern.edu or 610-341-1474.
