This Memorial Day, I want to encourage you to contemplate a word as profound as it is humbling: sacrifice. As a Christ-centered community, the power and meaning of sacrifice plays a significant role in our lives.
We read in John 15:13, "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.” Selfless service is laudable and brave; Selfless sacrifice is ultimate love. Both shape our nation’s history and its future.
This Memorial Day, I encourage you to reflect on the true meaning of this day. Whether it's reading stories of heroism, having meaningful conversations, pausing for prayer, or a moment of silence, let us honor the memory of our fallen heroes in a meaningful way. Let us also pray for the military families and friends grieving the loss of their loved ones. May they find comfort in the knowledge that they will never be forgotten and that their legacy will live on.
As we pause to remember the fallen, let us also express our heartfelt gratitude to all members of our military, past and present, for their service.
Thank you to all the members of our Eastern community who have served or have family members who have served. Your courage, dedication, and sacrifice inspire us.
Respectfully,
Ronald A. Matthews, D.M.A.
