St. Davids, PA: Eastern University is pleased to announce that two of its social work professors recently released an updated version of So You Want to Be a Social Worker: Reflections for the Christian Student. Professor Leslie Gregory, Senior Lecturer of Social Work; Interim Social Work Department Chair; BSW Program Director Field Director, and Dr. Sandy Bauer, Professor Emerita, worked together on the new release.
The 1985 first edition of the book was originally written by Dr. Alan Keith-Lucas, and has now been updated and extensively revised by Leslie Gregory and Sandy Bauer.
The book explores the connections between being a Christian and becoming a social worker, with a focus on bringing the social worker’s whole self to the helping process. So You Want to Be a Social Worker attempts to address key aspects of social work practice, including incorporating faith into practice. Additionally, the book discusses how to work competently with a client whose choices do not align with the social worker’s Christian faith and values.
Professor Leslie Gregory, Senior Lecturer of Social Work and Professor Emerita Sandy Bauer share, “This revision was influenced by many of the thoughtful questions and comments of Eastern University social work alumni. These students helped us think and wrestle with how our faith and practice are interconnected. We are proud of how our alumni continue to be present with people who are hurting and seek justice.”
