St. Davids, PA: Eastern University has launched Studio 1300, a 24/7 student-run radio station broadcasting from the St. Davids campus and available to listeners everywhere.
Listeners can tune in directly at Live365 by searching “Studio 1300” or listen via Amazon Alexa by enabling the Live365 skill and saying, “Alexa, play Live365!” followed by “Play Studio 1300.” Mobile streaming allows easy access on the go, whether in the car, through headphones, or at home. Song requests can be submitted to studio1300@eastern.edu.
Studio 1300 is a true variety station, featuring student-created shows that reflect their interests and musical tastes. In addition to live discussions on sports, pop culture, and faith-oriented topics, the lineup will include programming such as blues shows, Sunday morning Christian music, and Saturday soundtrack features. Faculty and alumni voices will also join the conversation, fostering engagement with the broader Eastern community.
A defining element of Studio 1300 is that students personally curate the music for their shows, offering a human touch that stands in contrast to algorithm-driven streaming services.
In addition to music and discussions, Studio 1300 will share university announcements, event updates, news, and weather. Reflecting Eastern’s mission, student chaplains will also provide brief “spiritual minutes” throughout the day.
“Studio 1300 will be a space that provides a channel for students seeking a creative outlet,” says junior Anisah Smith, ‘26, member of Studio 1300’s executive staff. “It will also be a place for students to have important conversations and share information campus wide and beyond. For me, the radio was my gateway into learning about all the exciting activities and classes the communication department has to offer.”
Supported by the Communication Studies Department, the station provides hands-on experience with industry-standard media technology while strengthening community engagement.
